ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Accredited and WHO Prequalified
The TMDA Quality Laboratory was established under section 14(1) of the Tanzania Food, Drugs and Cosmetics, Cap. 219, to carry out the analysis of food, medicines, cosmetics, diagnostics, and medical devices. The generated quality control results are important in ensuring that the Authority makes evidence-based regulatory decisions during marketing authorization and enforcement of other requirements of the Tanzania Food, Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
To attain international recognition and assure our esteemed customers that the generated quality control results are reliable and accurate, the Medicines and Cosmetics Analysis section has been prequalified by the World Health Organization (WHO) since 2011 while the Food and Microbiology sections were accredited as per ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard in 2012.
The laboratory is equipped with ultra-modern equipment that are serviced and maintained regularly by qualified engineers as per the service and preventive maintenance schedule in-line with certification bodies and implemented standards.
The main goals of the Laboratory are:
- To maintain accreditation and WHO Prequalification;
- To meet needs of customers which include the provision of timely and accurate results;
- To provide quality analytical results so as to assist in regulatory decision making and
- To meet business objectives of the TMDA.
